Hard water contains a combination of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and iron (Fe). Inside the water softener are resin beads that cause the positively charged calcium and magnesium ions to be exchanged with negatively charged sodium ions contained in those resin beads. This causes the water to leave the water softener without calcium and magnesium ions, this water is called soft water.
When the resin spheres become saturated and can no longer exchange enough, you can rinse the cylinder with brine so that the resin spheres can be exchanged again for sodium ions. Brine is created in the salt reservoir of the water softener.
Regeneration takes place automatically in intelligent mode (default). Simply enter the tested water hardness and the system automatically calculates the most efficient way to regenerate. The display also shows the number of gallons available before a new regeneration cycle is required.
